Midsomer Norton's former Argos store could be turned into a fast food restaurant, if the chain's desired plans go ahead.
Midsomer Norton’s branch of the catalogue-based shop closed in 2020, with an alternative click and collect Argos service opening at the nearby Sainsbury’s, at the Hollies.
The building at 32 High Street is owned by developers the Universal Consolidated Group Ltd, which has sent a change of use application to Bath and North East Somerset Council as part of potential plans to open it as a restaurant.
Now, B&NES Council received, on 29/09/2023, an application from Mcdonald's Restaurants Ltd to turn the old Argos space into another one of their popular fast food restaurants.
The latest proposal has been for a 'Change of use from Class E to restaurant and takeaway (Sui Generis), with associated works to the car park and elevations.'
The application change can be found here: Planning Application Reference: 23/03656/FUL
The proposed site plans can be found here.
