ANNA Sabine, Liberal Democrat MP for Frome and East Somerset, has marked her first 100 days in office by prioritising road safety and access to services.
In July, Anna campaigned for the Frome and East Somerset seat in Parliament, focusing on key issues that affect the public including road safety and access to services, which she said are ‘often overlooked’ by the Government.
On Tuesday, October 15, 100 days into her term, these issues remain her priority. During this time, she has voted nine times in Parliament, including against the Winter Fuel Payment cut, and used her maiden speech to highlight rural fuel poverty.
She has signed eighteen Early Day Motions across a broad collection of subjects from international issues, such as arms exports to Israel and peace in the Middle East to those of medical access focusing on the need for better dental provisions, access to mental health support and tackling period poverty.
The MP, whose constituency takes in Midsomer Norton and Radstock, said: “During my first 100 days one of my biggest achievements has been to have successfully brought about an agreement from Somerset County Council and Avon and Somerset Police about safety issues on the A361/A362 junction which resulted in tangible results for local residents now, as well as commitments to further changes coming.”
She described her first 100 days as rewarding but just the start of what she hopes to accomplish. Her team has responded to over 1,500 casework enquiries and, with a full staff in place, is prepared to continue assisting constituents.
“I think my proudest achievement in these 100 days has been what my team and I have managed behind the scenes, in assisting constituents that reach out and doing what we can to help and ensure their voices are heard,” she added.
Having used her maiden speech to highlight rural traditions, industrial heritage and community spirit of Frome and East Somerset, Anna committed to working to support local residents and tackling constituency wide issues such as lack of access to dentists, lack of public transport and serious challenges around road safety on Somerset A-roads.
She added: “100 days is only the beginning but ensuring Somerset and the West Country are prioritised by the Government that so often have overlooked the needs of rural areas is my number one priority and I’m excited to keep fighting on behalf of residents in my constituency year round not just at election time”.
