People are being urged to “do something special” and get involved with international Random Acts of Kindness Day.
The chairwoman of Bath & North East Somerset council is encouraging residents to take part in the event on Monday, February 17.
The day is dedicated to encouraging individuals to perform acts of kindness for others, without expecting anything in return. It is meant to be a reminder that small gestures of goodwill - whether big or small - can have a significant positive impact on someone’s day, and even on a community as a whole.
It’s also intended to celebrate the power of kindness and the ripple effect it can create in the world.
On Random Acts of Kindness Day, people are encouraged to perform simple, thoughtful actions, such as paying for someone’s coffee, complimenting a stranger, helping a neighbour or volunteering in the community.
The day was created by the Random Acts of Kindness Foundation, who hope to inspire acts of kindness, improve mental health and foster community connections.
The chairman of B&NES council, Cllr Karen Walker (Independent, Peasedown), said: “This day is not just about grand gestures - it’s about making kindness a regular part of daily life, creating a culture of compassion that spreads from person to person.
“I’m delighted to be supporting Random Acts of Kindness Day this year and I’m encouraging everyone to get involved.
“This can be anything, from phoning an elderly relative to helping someone do their shopping. The list is endless! Even a smile can brighten someone’s day.
“A little bit of kindness can go a long way in supporting others and uplifting their spirits.”
