DRIVERS heading north on the M5 are being urged to allow extra time for their journeys after a serious crash near Bristol yesterday (Thursday, November 29).
A crash involving four vehicles on the M49 northbound resulted in its closure, which could have a knock-impact to M5 commuters this morning.
National Highways said in a statement: “Motorists are advised to allow more time for their journeys this morning with the M49 northbound at Bristol set to remain closed during this morning’s rush hour between the M5 and A4/M4 junctions.
“The closure follows a collision involving four vehicles during yesterday evening’s rush hour at 5.50pm. All emergency services attended.
“As a result of the incident, fuel spillages caused significant damage to the road surface which requires re-surfacing. These works are ongoing, and it is hoped the motorway will reopen later today.
“Motorists travelling north on the M5 are advised to continue past Junction 18 for the M49 and to use Junction 16 for the M4 and onward travel to Wales.”
