TIMSBURY relinqished their position in the top two of the Bristol and District League Division 1 after a disappointing eight wicket defeat away to fellow promotion rivals Portishead.

The result saw the home team move above Timsbury into second place with Golden Hill at the top.

After electing to bat first Timsbury, with the exception of Lew Redwood, never got to grips with the pitch making it difficult to score runs. Redwood batted with assurance to reach 56 but no other player apart from skipper Jesse Bishop and Liam Hosford reached double figures. For the home side Dangerfield took 4-10 and Mott 3-32 as the visitors were dismissed for 114.

 Portishead then made light of the target and thanks to Garrett (55 not out) and Cooper (25) cruised home with plenty to spare.

Timsbury 2nd XI produced the performance of the day  with an exciting two wicket win at home to Hanham 2nd XI  in  the Bristol and District League Division 5. After batting first the visitors were sailing along at 147-1 with both Will Paget (69) and Joseph White (53) going well.

The introduction of Freddie Hosford then saw Timsbury fight back strongly. He took  3-28 as Hanham lost six wickets for 44 runs to finish on 191-7.

Hosford then starred with the bat, hitting an impressive 40 and with good support from James Rawlings (46) Timsbury made a strong response before  a collapse of their own saw them sink to 150-8. Tom Parfitt then took centre stage with a cameo knock of 34 not out and together with Russ King saw Timsbury home with ten balls to spare.

Timsbury 3rd XI continue to find it tough going in  the Bristol and District League Division 9 East but once again there were a number of encouraging displays from some of the younger players in the 78 run home defeat to Bristol Sri Lankans 2nd XI. 

he visitors notched up a daunting total of 230-5 with Max Steeds taking 2-28. The home said then battled hard to use up all of their 40 overs and reach 152-8. Neil Watkins made 33, Luke Matthews 27 and Jack Bennett 24.

Meanwhile, on a sad note the club has been sad to hear of the death of another  of its former players Sid Maule. The club send their condolences to all of Sid’s family.
