Fosseway Seniors staged its first Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal Golf Day as part of a nationally coordinated fundraiser.

David Hamblin, retiring Chair of the Somerset Light Infantry Rifles Association, and Ted Phillips, President of the Rifles’ Midsomer Norton branch, were on-hand to witness the top-seeded team of Alan Jones, Cyril Blacker, Allen Cheney and Ivan Love run out worthy winners with a total of 163 points.

Jones also took the individual award with 43 points on countback ahead of event organiser Doug Lane and John Smart. Love also scooped an individual prize – nearest the pin on the short 5th. Completing a crowded winners’ enclosure was Martin Cuer, who conjured the sweetest of strikes to produce the longest drive on the 2nd.

Thanks to Lin, Helen and Judy for the after-competition cakes, but the real icing was the £250 raised by Fosseway Seniors for the Poppy Appeal.
