The Seniors section of Fosseway Golf Club put up a strong performance in their away fixture with Cannington and returned with a creditable 3-3 draw.
Seniors secretary Alan Jones and his partner Gerry Rowell recorded the most convincing result with a three and two victory, while Mike Weeks and Paul Trigg came out on top two and one.
Cyril Blacker and Allen Cheney and Phil Winsley and Martyn Cuer halved their matches but there were defeats for captain Frank Dance and Alan White who were beaten three and one and Dave Peacey and George Thurston who lost seven and six.
The battle for the Fouracres Trophy saw success for Mike Ricketts and Rex Wyatt whose joint nett total of 131, based mainly on Ricketts’ nett score of sixty which enabled them to finish one shot in front.
Weeks’ excellent nett score of fifty eight was not quite enough to lift the trophy as he and his partner Thurston ended on 132. In third place on 137 came John Bendle and Noel Chatfield.
A large contingent of the Senior group travelled to Haycombe Crematorium to say goodbye to one of its most popular members Nick Foxwell who had recently died. Nick was an inspirational individual who had endured a series of health problems but who always remained positive and cheerful and who will be sadly missed at Fosseway.
