THE LADIES section of Orchardleigh Golf Club held their AGM on Monday, November 4, at the clubhouse attended by just over twenty members.

After the apologies were read out and the minutes of the last meeting were agreed, the Lady Captain Lin Handley reported on her year in office. She stressed that the weather had been very unkind to her throughout the year, meaning some of her fund raising events had to be cancelled, hence the money raised for her charities was rather less than it might have been.

Nevertheless, a sum of £300 is to be distributed between Dorothy House and Purple Elephant. Lin said she very much enjoyed her Captain's Day and the Away Day, but both were slightly tainted by the inclement weather.

Following on were reports from the treasurer, handicap secretary and competition secretary as well as the team captains of the Alliance (Sue Sweet) and Interclub (Sue Chalker).

In the Bristol & District Alliance League, Orchardleigh are proud to be going up to division four and meeting different clubs in the 2025 season. Whereas the Somerset Interclub League team did not do so well this year, dropping down into the third division. Orchardleigh Ladies did better this year in the Roger's Cup -a county team knock-out competition - getting through to the third round, when they were knocked out by Clevedon at Long Sutton.

Various proposals were put forward by the committee, all relevant to a reduced number of active lady members. After some discussion, all proposals were carried.

Lin introduced the new Lady Captain Sue Marshall. Sue thanked Lin for all she had done throughout her year in office and said she is looking forward to the challenge of being the new Lady Captain for 2025. Jan Light was voted in as Lady Vice Captain and Lin Handley will take over the post of treasurer from Jan. All the other officers remain the same for 2025.

As there was no other business, the meeting was then closed and the winners of the monthly Medal and Stableford competitions for 2024 were presented with their prizes. They are as follows:

Medal winners: Div 1 – Sue Marshall, Ann James: Div 2 – Pat Pitt, Marion Underhill (2); Stableford winners: Div 1 – Barbara Field, Sarah Hynds, Ann James, Lorraine Collings: Div 2 – Christine Arnold, Pat Jones, Sue chalker, Lin Handley, Liz Thomas, Mary Ford,
