The combined Mens’ Cheddar Trophy and Tweedale Medal was played in interesting conditions and the scores once again reflected the quality of course we are lucky enough to be playing on currently.
A stunning round of 87 nett 61 from Kev Horrell sees him added to the Honours Board as the overall Cheddar Trophy winner.
Commiserations to Peter Ramsay who shot an excellent nett 63 and yet finished second overall. Division One winner was Stuart Davis with a nett 68 and Division Two was won by Luke Taylor with nett 67.
A scorching day greeted the second round of the Senior Men’s Club Championship and Mike Metcalfe certainly was hot. Leading by one shot after day 1, he produced an exhibition round of golf putting his closest opponents under pressure to score an amazing 72. He wins the Gross Prize ‘Cole Cup’ with a total 148. Nigel Pring came second with 153 and Ian Burr third with 160. The Dalby Cup for the nett score was also won by Mike with 128.
It was a tough week for Wells ladies. The Interclub league team played away at Farrington Park and lost 4 1/2 to 2 1/2.
Congratulations to Janice White and Jackie Clark for winning their matches and Diane Ramsay for halving her match.
Next up saw Wells Ladies playing Burnham & Berrow at Worlebury Golf Club in the third round of the Somerset Rogers Cup.
Wells have already beaten the current cup holders Wheathill and Mendip Spring.
A strong Burnham team of experienced low handicappers were too much and Wells lost 5 1/2 to 1 1/2. Glynis Slater recorded the only win for Wells and Erica Klim halved her match.
Club Night was won by Clive Fowler with a 12 hole score of 30 points.
