The visitors were complementary about the course condition with the greens in good order, particularly for late October.
The winning visitors were a combined Bath/Chippenham team with 78 points, with a Long Ashton team second with 77, A Whitley team (near Devizes) were third with 76 after countback from a Farrington team. The best Mendip team were the very established threesome of Paul Smith, Martin Myers and Andy Parfitt with 77, with Eric Jordan, Robert Farmer and Ian Pope second, with 76 after countback from Philip Bendall,
Colin Davies and Andrew Ashman. Another very successful event organised by Stuart Disney and his Pro Shop Team aided as always by Nola Russell.
There were 139 competitors in the annual running of the Stephenson Cup with some excellent scoring in evidence.
Division Three went to James Pitchell with a net 68, Cameron Goudie was second with 69 and C. Wiltshire third with 70 after countback. Division Two saw a win for John Ellis with an outstanding 64, A. Thatcher was second with 67 after countback from Mark Necker. Division One was won by Dean Lewer with a 68 and after a four-way countback on 70, A. Padfield was second and Tom Hurst, third. However, the Cup Winner with a very fine 63, playing off 20 was Lee Hurst. Well done, Lee.
The Ladies played a stand-aside Texas Scramble with fifty Ladies competing. Winning with a net 57.4 were Penny Oliver, Lyn Jones, Allison Rumming and Lynn Cox, an amazing 8.6 ahead of the second-placed team of Jean Padfield, Val Dixon, Hilary Rowdon and Susy Ruskin, who carded a net 66. Wendy Norman, Caroline Simper, Eileen Masters and Julia Philips were third with 67.2.
The Ladies also held a Weekend Stableford and this was won by Jinhee Page, with 35 points, with Clare Salter second with 29 after countback from Lyn Jones.
The Pro Shop Nearest the Pin went to Ellen Reakes, with John Ellis second and David Braithwaite third.
The Seniors Captain’s Charity Day was a great success. Despite very stormy weather, 118 Seniors braved the elements.
The main Winner on the Day was the Alzheimer’s Society with the grand sum of £751. The competition winners were Alan O’Leary, Martin Myers, Paul Smith and Andy Parfitt with a fine 88 points. Philip Bendall, Colin Davies, Andrew Ashman and Stephen Smith were second with 85 after a triple countback. Third were Hugh Glandfield, Chris Roe, Chris Jackson and Robert Berry and in fourth place came David Braithwaite, Steve Turner, John Ellis and Gareth Collier.
