MIDSOMER Norton remain second in the Bristol/Somerset section of the West of England Premier Cricket League despite suffering their second successive defeat - by one run away to third-placed Golden Hill.
They are now only two points clear of Golden Hill - both sides having only three more games to play.
Put into bat, Golden Hill scored 255-9 in their 50 overs with Sam Brooks top scoring with 71. Cyrus Shafi scored 34, Jack Penn 31 and Archie Newton 21.
Adam Sylvester snapped up 3-47, Jake Roberts 2-38 and Harrison Veale 2-40.
Midsomer Norton lost half their side when scoring only 91. But wicketkeeper Callum Harvey was their star batter, hitting 106 and being their eighth wicket down with the score on 227.
Sylvester, coming in at No 9, scored 32, while Jake Roberts made 29, Richard Staines 21 and John Carroll 20. Ed Middleton took 4-51 and Daniel Broome 3-62.
Meanwhile, Downend stretched their lead at the top after they gained a one-wicket win at Wellington in an equally exciting game.
Wellington, second from bottom before this game, scored 195 all out after being 80-6. At 106-6, Downend were in trouble but managed to sneak over the line through their last pair of Bobby Naeen (10) and Philip Jackson (0).
