THE national Welsh Tae Kwon-Do competition in Cardiff was held on Sunday, May 19. The event drew an impressive turnout of over 900 competitors, and Midsomer Norton TAGB Tae Kwon-Do club had six students competing in various events.
For some of our members, this was their first Tae Kwon-Do competition. We were extremely successful and every one of our students came home with a medal and we had a total haul of 12.
Despite the fierce competition, Lucy Barr finished with a well-deserved gold medal in individual patterns and individual sparring, becoming a double Welsh Champion, a testament to her determination and skill within the sport.
There were excellent results for Sydné Bell, eight, our youngest competitor. She was fantastic and unstoppable in both her individual patterns and individual sparring, securing gold medals and becoming double Welsh champion. She also pushed herself in the team sparring event and got all the way to the final finishing second.
Henry Smith, 11, another club junior who has just started competing, jumped straight into the deep end. He took part in both individual patterns and individual sparring finishing with a well deserved second place at the sparring event.
We are so proud of our junior students, not only because they’ve managed to win medals, but because of their willingness to work hard. They cheered each other throughout the day, smiling, and were inspiring to watch.
Stefan Barr has been developing his skills in the field of sparring and boldly entered the competition. He held his own against talented competitors and it was a close match, he secured second place losing by a point in the final. He challenged himself and entered three other events finishing with a bronze medal for team patterns and gold at the team sparring.
Josh Longworh also performed excellently, pushing himself he entered four events finishing with a well deserved gold medal for team sparring and bronze for team pattern. Club instructor Ms Edyta Fober finished third at the individual sparring event.
We are proud of the students as it’s not easy to compete not knowing who your opponents are going to be, performing in front of judges, other competitors and spectator crowds. Their hard work, dedication and commitment paid off.
