AFTER an excellent mid-week display in the Les Phillips Cup, Paulton Rovers suffered a disappointing 2-1 defeat away to Wellington in the Premier Division of the Jewson Western League.

The first chance fell for Wellington in the 10th minute but Dan Jackson deflected the ball up onto the crossbar.

Both teams toiled for the rest of the half and several shots from distance were attempted by both teams but neither keeper was really tested.

The turning point came in the 41st minute when Martin Lenihan was sin binned for complaining about a foul.

Rovers needed to shuffle some positions and even with a man down a great chance fell for Leo Eglin who scuffed his shot when through.

As the half closed, Rovers won a corner but it broke down easily and with numbers pushed up for the corner, Rohan Poulsam picked up the ball and was able to charge forward and put the ball in past Jackson.

Paulton’s Josh Ford was sin binned in the 64th minute and Wellington again took full advantage of the extra man, with Jason Quick scoring with a header two minutes later to make it 2-0.

Will Hailston pulled a goal back for Paulton towards the end but time ran out for the visitors.
