PAULTON Rovers provided a largely dominant performance to beat South Western Peninsula Premier East side Torridgeside 3-0 at home in the second qualifying round of the FA Vase.
An early free kick from Dan McBeam was taken down by Jac Poffley but his shot flashed narrowly wide. McBeam was instrumental in many of the hosts moves during the game and minutes later created a chance for Jun Walker from the edge of the box but Aidan Craker in the Torridgeside goal was equal to it.
In the 23rd minute McBeam struck a shot of his own which Craker had to be much sharper with. Torridgeside began to get a foothold in the game though and started to press the Rovers defence as the half wore on. But Dan Jackson wasn’t forced into any serious saves.
Rovers responded and should have been ahead in the 39th minute when good work from Corey Rawlings on the left allowed him the chance to square the ball to Kye Simpson but his close range shot was somehow stopped by the keeper.
Further late pressure from the home team came in a deflected shot from Martin Lenihan and a header over the bar by Elliot Creely.
The second half was more of the same and Dan McBeam got free on the left of the box but his shot pinged off the foot of the left hand post.
Rovers upped the pressure over the following 20 minutes. McBeam almost scored straight from a corner but Craker just managed to claw the ball out from under the crossbar.
Simpson shot wide after being put through, Martin Lenihan went very close from a free kick from outside the box and Chris Peck headed over from a Josh Ford pass.
As time wore on, Torridgeside became somewhat more influential on the pattern of the game and Dan Jackson had to be sharp from a Jack Magrotto shot.
Finally, in the 81st minute, McBeam got his reward. Chris Peck fired a cross-field ball from the right which McBeam latched onto and moved into the box. His fierce shot was too much for Craker this time though.
It was two just two minutes later and McBeam was involved again as he laid a ball into the path of Leo Eglin who lifted the ball over the keeper from 12 yards. Eglin made it three in the 87th minute after Kye Simpson squared the ball and he tapped in from close range
