SUPPORTERS of Shepton Mallet AFC celebrated a recent victory over Ilfracombe Town in the Jewson Western League by raising more than £150 for Mind in Somerset.

Jewson League Podcast presenter Ian Nockolds returned to Mallet for a second time following a successful bucket collection for Mind in Somerset back in November 2022, which raised £100.

Joined by league chairman John Pool and president Brian Beer, Ian Nockolds presented the club with two new changing room posters, highlighting information and services the players can access if they are experiencing challenges with their mental wellbeing.

Ian said: “This is the first time we’ve re-visited a club and the fact we raised even more the second time round shows how keen our supporters are to support the incredible work the local Mind charities do. “

Shepton Mallet chairman Rodney Neale, said: “There isn’t a football club in the land that hasn’t been touched by issues related to mental health and that’s why it’s so important we support charities like Mind in Somerset. Talking about mental wellbeing is the first step.”

Starting in February 2022, the Jewson Western League have organised fundraising and awareness events at 21 clubs across the South West. To date, the League have raised over £4,300 for local Mind charities.
