WELTON Rovers AFC are pleased to announce a new partnership between the club and Total Pro Soccer who will be leading the First Team Operations at Welton with the club’s new managers Billy Wheeler and Angus Youngson taking the helm.

The club says: “We are all looking forward to an exciting future ahead.”

Meanwhile, Welton went down 5-0 at home to Bridgwater United in the Premier Division of the Jewson Western League.

Both sides came out of the blocks at full speed. Welton keeper Mackenzie Welsh was called into action early on when he produced a great stop to deny Kyle Tooze. Welton responded and a superb run by Tash Linton saw him beat off two challenges and only for his final effort to be cleared.

The resulting corner was taken by Mason Alden and there was a terrific shout for handball from the Welton players but referee Baird was having none of it. A swift counter attack saw the ball fall to striker Jack Taylor who fired home to give Bridgwater the lead.

Five minutes later the visitors were awarded a controversial penalty for handball and up stepped Tooze to score from the spot kick.

Welton heads didn’t drop and a stunning 25 yard strike from Joshua Roddy saw his shot saved by Bridgwater keeper Liam Kingston. A couple of minutes later Kingston tipped Arian Askari’s goal bound shot round the post.

Just before halftime Bridgwater got a third when Ryan Crawford was found in space and made no mistake with his shot.

The second half began with the visitors pressing but the Welton defence were coping well and Welsh produced a top drawer save to deny Tooze a second goal. An excellent run by Askari saw him tear through the visitors defence and with the goal at his mercy he shot over the bar.

Kingston was on hand to deny Welton again when a thunderbolt of a shot from Finley Skinner had goal written all over it till the keeper tipped the ball onto the bar and away. However the experienced visitors still looked sharp going forward and Taylor got his second and Bridgwater’s fourth when he met a cross from the left to head home and right on the stroke of full time an unstoppable free kick from 20 yards out flew straight into the Welton net giving Welsh no chance.

On Saturday, November 8, Welton entertain Wellington at West Clewes k.o. 3pm.
