This year’s Chew Valley 10k T-shirt and medal has been designed by an 11-year-old schoolboy.
Charlie Layzell is a year 7 pupil at Chew Valley School.
The 10km race will take place on Sunday June 1 at 9.30am starting at Bishop Sutton Village Hall.
Each year the Chew Valley 10k offers pupils a chance to work on a real-life design project, and this year’s winner was selected for his creative and bold design which reflects the countryside views throughout the course.
Charlie is pictured with Chew Valley School’s head of design & technology, Jo Ashman and Justin Taylor, Winford Road Garages, who are the main sponsors of the event, along with Brock & Houlford Expert Eyecare.
He said: “It was exciting to be picked to design this year’s T-shirt as I’ve watched the race since I was really young. It will be brilliant to see my work on the T-shirt, I wanted to bring the countryside into the design, so it looked like the Chew Valley.”

Justin said “Charlie’s design was fantastic and will look great on the runners as they race to the finish. We are delighted to support this well-organised race again, as it promotes an active lifestyle for all ages whilst also doing so much for local causes, schools and charities.”
Over 250 runners have already secured their place for the race. Anyone wanting to enter can do so at www.chewvalley10k.co.uk for the early bird price of £25 (£23 if affiliated to a running club) or just £15 for 15-18 year olds (£13 if affiliated).
The event is chip-timed, with a bespoke medal and a free kit store plus teas, a cake stall and much more. The T-shirt is available for £10 when buying an entry to the race, and is a breathable, technical T-shirt, made from recycled plastic.
