NEW data has revealed that Somerset is charging the highest fees for bulky waste collection in the South West.
Somerset waste management experts at BusinessWaste.co.uk have undertaken research to find out and compare the bulky waste charges for all 382 councils across the UK.
The research uncovers the minimum charges for bulky waste collection, price per item, fridge charges, and any discounts offered by councils.
The highest minimum charge in the South West belongs to Somerset Council at £73.40, which is also the fifth highest in the whole of the UK.

The council doesn’t offer any discounts to its residents, but fridge collections are included with the charge, as is the case for most other councils.
The £73.40 charge covers three items and additional items are priced at extra £18.40 each.
In second place is East Devon District Council which has a minimum charge of £60 for bulky waste collections. Prices rise to £90 for three items, £135 for six items and £180 for nine items.
For the third highest charge, in Swindon Borough Council with £39.99, discounts are given to those who receive council tax support of at least 80 per cent, reducing the minimum charge to £32.99.
The research also uncovered that the South West has the joint-fourth highest regional charge at £32.70.

Meanwhile, Northern Ireland has the lowest average minimum charge of only £5.97, while the South East is the region with the highest average minimum charge for bulky waste collection at £44.81 – a huge difference of 651 per cent.
BusinessWaste.co.uk also found that none of the South West councils offer a free collection service, with the cheapest minimum charge being for West Devon District Council at £15.
