MIDSOMER Norton beat leaders Downend by 84 runs away in the Bristol/Somerset Division of the West of England Premier Cricket League over the weekend. 

Although Downend remain top, Midsomer Norton are now only four points adrift, both sides having played the same number of games. It was only Downend's second defeat of the summer.

Star of Midsomer Norton's 240 all out was Callum Harvey who hit 129, a knock which included 18 fours and six sixes. Ollie Louch took 2-35 for Downend.

Chasing their ninth victory of the season, Downend were always in trouble after losing their first wicket with the score on 51.

Opener Callum Loud was their top scorer, hitting a run-a-ball 71 with nine fours and two sixes. Fellow opener Masoor Khan was their second highest scorer with 15, as Downend were bowled out for 156 in 33.3overs.

Harvey capped an excellent match with figures of 3-23, Morgan Skipp took 3-25 and Jake Roberts 2-43.

Elsewhere, Golden Hill dropped down to fourth after losing by 57 runs away to Clevedon who scored 221-7 and then bowled out the opposition for 164.

Taunton Deane remain bottom - they have lost all ten of their matches - after they were beaten by 78 runs at Wellington.
