Cath Levell and Colin Mantle took on Jan and Dave Hayward in the
Final of the Mixed Summer Greensomes Knockout at Wells Golf Club.
It was played in perfect conditions; however, this did not mean perfect golf. All players showed nerves and made costly errors.
The Haywards were two up after seven, but lost the next two holes to be level at the turn.
Levell/Mantle lost the tenth after getting well out of position but came back to win eleven and twelve.
The Haywards won the thirteenth to level the match before going one ahead at the fifteenth. On the seveteenth, Dave Hayward found the green, Jan putted close allowing a tap in par and a win for the Haywards.
Cath Levell won the Ladies’ President’s Cup, with an excellent nett 71. In second place was Philippa Gowen, with 73 points and Linda Wright was third on countback.
The Ladies’ September Medal was played in dry conditions.
Silver Division: First Glynis Slater - nett 70 (on countback)
Bronze Division: First Kathy Lane – nett 73.
Copper Division: First Jane Tucker – nett 71.
After the annual ladies versus men match, the Hobby Horse is proudly displaying a pink ribbon as the Ladies won 4½ to 3½.
