TWENTY-Four ladies from local tennis clubs came together at Somer Valley Tennis Club to ‘Wear it Pink’ in aid of Breast Cancer Now.

Hosted by Somer Valley Tennis Club on the indoor courts at Writhlington, a fun tennis tournament was held with ladies coming from clubs including Camvale, Bishop Sutton and Beckington.

Tournament organiser Jenny Perez said: “Last year we received funding to promote and give access to women & girls to tennis in the Norton Radstock area. It was a hugely successful project with a number of ladies joining our club who now play regularly. The tournament was an enjoyable and fun event, so we repeated it again this year, with the players contributing to court costs and we still raised over £170 for Breast Cancer Now’

The winning pair were Janie Bullus & Imogen Lines, narrowly beating Lis Leatham & Jane Benney in a championship tiebreak 12-10.

Mandy Stonier, chair of Somer Valley Tennis Club, said: “We are pleased tennis is still a sport being enjoyed by many people across the Somer Valley area. Local clubs and us are at the forefront of increasing participation, both juniors and adults.”
